Make the most of ‘Twixmas’ in and around Crowthorne

As a very different 25^th December comes and goes, the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as known as ‘Twixmas’ is always a bit betwixt and between, with everyone looking for new activities to enjoy during the seasonal break.  

Luckily for those living at and nearby to Renaissance’s Crowthorne community, there is plenty to look forward to during Twixmas and beyond. Here are a few ideas to explore:

Start the New Year off with a good walk

Join locals on 1 January 2020 and start the New Year with what has become a tradition in the village. A New Year’s Day Walk, which is a flat, two-mile route through woods on the estate of Wellington College organised by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Crowthorne and Sandhurst. The event is known to some locals as the ‘Bacon Butty Walk’ as Rotary volunteers sell bacon butties, tea, coffee and soft drinks to walkers. Funds raised at the 2020 walk will be donated to The Salvation Army, Pilgrims Hearts and other Rotary charities. The community event starts at 11am and there is a £3 entrance fee for adults.

Windsor Great Park

Just up the road from Renaissance Crowthorne, winter at Windsor Great Park is a magical time, whether it is the delights of the winter beds in The Savill Garden or enjoying the changing winter landscaped in the 3000 acres of Swinley Forest or the Long Walk and Deer Park. For a really different way to explore the park why not take it all in from a horse drawn carriage and discover some of its best kept secrets that way.

A venture to Cliveden

If you fancy going a little further afield then Cliveden is a wonderful place to explore at this time of year. There are all sorts of curious places to see on the National Trust estate like the Flint House (no-one knows for certain why it was built), enjoy a walk along the River Thames and see all the statues dotted around the grounds.
