Our community Lifehosts are an integral factor in Renaissance’s ethos towards later living. We’re proud of the work they do, bringing together and helping our homeowners and Lifestory rental members, especially during the recent lockdown.

As part of a new Q&A series, we’ve been speaking to our Lifehosts, discovering a bit more about them and what they love most about their roles.

In this instalment, we speak with Stacey Osborne, Lifehost at our Sandhurst community in Berkshire.

Hi Stacey, how is life at the Sandhurst community?

Under the circumstances, life at Sandhurst throughout lockdown has been great. Our homeowners have been looking out for each other and were able to spend time together as we’ve got a lovely, spacious owners’ lounge which has made social distancing a lot easier.

A few people were shielding but the majority met up a few times week for activities such as armchair aerobics or for a morning coffee together.

It’s really nice to know they had each other, especially at the stricter start of lockdown when I could only visit the community for the essential health and safety checks.

Have you seen an increase in people looking for a strong sense of community?

We’ve had quite a few viewings, especially single people wanting to be part of a community as they were feeling isolated during lockdown. It has been a main driver for many to start looking into independent living with a community element; they liked that they could have their own home but with a good social life. I’m hoping we’ll soon be welcoming more homeowners to our community.

What are your top tips or recommendations for Sandhurst?

Sandhurst and the surrounding areas are great for anyone interested in getting out and walking. Some of our homeowners have found some really nice routes in the local area.

Camberley, Farnborough and Fleet are all easily accessible and we have transport routes, with a bus stop right outside and we are in walking distance of the Meadows.

What do you enjoy most about living and working in the area?

I really enjoy working here, the homeowners are all so lovely and have made me feel really welcome.

Every day is different and aside from my regular safety checks, I don’t know what to expect from day to day as it can be so varied. It is great to be able to spend time with the owners and we have more on each week now that we have been able to adapt to the rule of 6 from line dancing to French speaking afternoons in addition to our weekly coffee mornings.

We’ve also got some keen gardeners and will be planting some bulbs over the next few weeks to enjoy in the Spring.

Lastly, what’s your favourite feature about the Sandhurst community?

I absolutely love the décor, it is very calming and elegant.
