Spend a day in historic Wimborne

Wimborne is home to so much more than our gorgeous development. The market town has a fascinating history, including an affiliation with Victorian novelist, poet and author of Tess of the d’Urbervilles. Thomas Hardy, who lived in Wimborne in the 1880s, based fictional locations in his book Two on a Tower on Wimborne.

Visitors to Wimborne today can visit the Minster Church and its Chained Library, whose oldest book dates back to the 1300s. The Library, which was of the first public libraries in the country and is one of only four chained libraries remaining in the UK today, also contains a book of sermons belonging to Henry VIII’s first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
