This International Women’s Day, we’re turning the spotlight on the remarkable women within our Pegasus Homes communities. If you think later living is about slowing down, these women are here to politely (and stylishly) disagree. From OBE recipients and former film industry mavens to world travellers and healthcare pioneers, our residents prove that age is simply a backdrop for a life well-lived.

This year’s International Women’s Day is all about "Give to Gain." It’s a reminder that when we share what we have - whether it’s our time, years of wisdom, or just a helping hand - we all move forward together. When we open doors for one another, the possibilities for women everywhere keep growing. We see that same spark in our residents every day; an empowered mindset and the drive to explore opportunities allow our residents to create a fulfilling lifestyle in their later life - and don’t they just!

Take Cynthia, for example, whose career as a nurse began in 1965 and culminated in her role as Chief Nurse for British Rail. Her dedication earned her a Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing and an OBE, presented by the King himself.

Even as she approaches her 80th birthday, Jill embodies the "Give to Gain" spirit by leading craft groups, volunteering as a cathedral steward, and staying active in yoga and textile societies. In her career journey, Jill transitioned from a medical secretary in York to the World Health Organization in Geneva and later flew the skies as a stewardess before landing at Granada Television. Her journey reminds us that a life of exploration creates a wealth of stories to share with a community.

Then there are women like Dawn, who spent her career in the high-stakes world of cinema with United Artists, and Rita, who at 75, reflects on two distinct careers as both an international nanny and a dedicated community carer. These women haven't retired from life; they’ve entered a new chapter where their experiences enrich everyone around them. By sharing their life lessons, they ensure that our Pegasus Homes communities remain hubs of activity. This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the fact that an empowered mindset knows no age limit, and the drive to explore never has to fade.

Happy International Women’s Day!
