Gill’s zest for life at Lichfield Bonds

From her early days in a quiet Yorkshire village, Gill knew she was destined for a life that moved a little faster. Always eager for the next adventure, she spent decades traversing the globe - living in Switzerland and America before settling into a fulfilling career in Manchester.

Today, that same zest for life defines her. While some see age as a reason to slow down, Gill sees it as an opportunity to spend time doing more of what she loves.

"I've found some really interesting people here.  There are all sorts of activities going on... and I still have my outside interests".

After 20 years in a large house in her beloved Lichfield, Gill realised the property was beginning to hold her back. Following the passing of her husband, the upkeep of an older home felt less like a passion and perhaps more like a distraction from her busy social calendar.

In June 2025, she made the move to Lichfield Bonds, and she hasn't looked back.

You’ll rarely find Gill sitting still. She is a big part of the wider Lichfield community, thriving in her roles at the Cathedral where she serves as a member of the congregation, a volunteer, a steward, and even runs a craft club there!

"I love being in Lichfield," Gill says. "The atmosphere here is fantastic. It’s exactly the place I want to be."

As Gill approaches her 80th birthday this February, she does so with the same adventurous spirit that took her across the Atlantic years ago. She isn't just "living" in Lichfield; she is flourishing, proving that independent living is the secret to staying young at heart. Her friends and loved ones are going to join her at Lichfield Bonds, to celebrate and raise a glass to her new found community and friendship.
