Home is where the heart is - the story of Cynthia and Richard’s life in Lichfield

For many of our residents, the location of where they live is just as important as the home itself. Cynthia and Richard relocated to the Lichfield area in 1968 and despite moving several times since then, have never wanted to move away from the city that they’ve grown to love over the last 58 years. 

When the couple decided it was time for them to start thinking about downsizing, they knew they wanted to stay within Lichfield - so the newly launched Lichfield Bonds community was a perfect consideration for them. 

“We’ve had friends who we’ve watched their health unfortunately deteriorate and they’ve ended up trapped in their homes, unable to make the move they should have made years prior.” Cynthia explains “We wanted to be in control of our destiny and not end up in a similar situation, hence making this move whilst all decisions could still be entirely on our own terms.”

It wasn’t just the autonomy of the move itself that drew Cynthia and Richard to Pegasus Homes - the location within their beloved city was another big consideration - as they only moved a mile and half down the road!

“We knew whole heartedly we didn’t want to leave Lichfield, but we needed to make the move to the right place for us long-term. From our new home we can walk into the city centre within five minutes, we regularly visit the theatre and we’re within walking distance of the train station.” says Richard, “We have our car with us at Lichfield Bonds but to be honest, even if we didn’t, we’d have no problems getting around to do everything we want to do as the community is so well located.”

“We really can’t find any downsides!” Adds Cynthia, “Our apartment overlooks Stowe Pool and we love sitting of a morning having our breakfast watching the world go by. We’re looking forward to getting stuck into the social events within the community, but it’s nice having the choice to opt in or out however we want to.”

Throughout their 60 years together, Cynthia and Richard have travelled all over the world thanks to Richard’s time as a top badminton umpire and referee. The couple have travelled as far as the Philippines and Russia during Richard’s tenure - but always found themselves returning to Lichfield, no matter how many places they’ve been able to visit and experience. 

After making the decision to downsize to Lichfield Bonds, the couple were concerned they’d face a lengthy process in selling their own home and being able to move into the apartment they’d fallen in love with - but the support of the Pegasus Homes team made what can often be a difficult process so much easier for the pair. 

“I can’t praise the staff enough,” Cynthia tells us “all of the on-site team and the Sales team were tremendous, on the day of completion we were in our apartment by 11:30am! We used the Aprico service which made the whole downsizing process so much easier. On the day we moved in, I burst into tears - I was just so relieved to be in our new home and excited to start this next chapter.”
