“I’d move in myself tomorrow if I could!”

For many of our residents, the decision to move into their Pegasus Home is not one made just by them; their families are often a key part of the journey and play a key role in helping them to make that next step. We love hearing from our residents about why they chose their Pegasus Home and all the benefits they are reaping from life at their new community, but we also love to hear from their families about what the move of their loved one means to them.
Sharon’s mum, Maureen, moved into our Jesmond Assembly community in 2023 - a decision which Sharon says is the ‘best she ever made’, due to the safety and security of the community and what that means not just for Maureen’s quality of life, but Sharon’s too.
“After my mum lost her partner three years ago and told me she wanted to move, I was initially nervous.” Says Sharon “She asked me to have a look online for her in the early stages. I knew she wasn’t ready for or in need of a care home, just somewhere where she would feel safe and I’d also know she’d feel safe - which is when I found Jesmond Assembly.”
“I wasn’t sure if she’d go for it at first but after her first visit she told me she wanted to make the move. I knew it had to be her decision and I didn’t want to influence her one way or the other, but it is the best decision we both made, I don’t think either one of us could be happier with her choice.”
Supporting family members with their move to a later living community can bring a new lease of life to everyone. For Sharon, knowing her mum is living happily and safely in a secure community like Jesmond Assembly, means she can continue doing the things she most enjoys in life.
“I do a lot of travelling, sometimes for several months at a time, which I would not feel comfortable doing if she was still rattling around alone in a three bedroom house. Knowing she is safe, in a secure building, where she can access everything she needs and has people looking out for her, means I can continue to live my life to the fullest too!”
For Sharon and Maureen, life at Jesmond Assembly has also opened up a whole new social calendar for the pair of them, as part of the wider community. “I’d move in myself tomorrow if I could,” Sharon tells us “It’s like living in a 5 star hotel! I take advantage of the on-site guest suite when I go and visit Mum, and most of the residents know me now! Everyone is lovely and very welcoming, and I love getting to socialise with them all when I am staying to visit.”
“The communal area and the library are such a nice addition to Mum’s apartment, but the nice thing is that you can opt in and out of the social events as much as you want to. I also couldn’t recommend the location enough, being so close to the metro and the shops.”
At Pegasus Homes, we pride ourselves on creating communities that inspire social connection, security and freedom in later life. Stories like Sharon and Maureen’s prove that those benefits are not just felt by our residents themselves, but by their loved ones and families as well, meaning everyone involved is able to enjoy the benefits of life at a Pegasus community.
