There is something bittersweet about the last few days of summer. Ordinarily it’s difficult to say farewell to long evenings, warm days and the jovial spirit that summer tends to bring. But this year, we experienced unprecedented temperatures over the summer season, and so most of the UK is ready to embrace the autumnal months and a dip in temperature! Autumn is well known as a season of change and with a positive mindset, can reveal itself as one of the most rewarding times of the year. To help you embrace the change, we have curated a list of things to look forward to as we step into the joys of autumn living.

Comfortable outdoor living

The shift into autumn brings a welcome break from the summer heat. The sweltering afternoon sun gives way to crisp, comfortable temperatures, ideal for spending quality time outside without needing to bundle up in a heavy winter coat, just yet. It is the perfect period for morning walks, a cup of tea in the garden, and enjoying the changing leaves in total comfort.

Slower days

For many, summer brings a whirlwind of activity. Between family holidays, day trips, and keeping grandchildren entertained, personal time can be hard to come by. As autumn sets in, a gentler rhythm takes over. With a lighter social calendar, you might have the room to breathe, unwind, and dedicate space to the things you truly enjoy.

Seasonal events

With some more time on your hands, autumn opens up a wonderful lineup of seasonal community outings:

Artisan Markets: Explore local treasures at markets and fayres like the Bath Autumn Fayre (2nd-4th October) which takes place moments from our Bath Leat community. Independent makers showcase everything from handmade trinkets to sustainable outdoor fashion.

Pumpkin Picking: A classic seasonal tradition that the whole family can enjoy. Residents of our Winchester Holts community have Hampshire Pantry a short drive away, the perfect spot to pick a pumpkin and enjoy a cup of tea in the cafe.

Neighbourhood Festivities: Take advantage of autumn fairs, harvest celebrations, and local pop-up markets right on your doorstep. For example, residents of our Cobham Bowers community can take advantage of having RHS Garden Wisley a 10 minute car journey away - from 2nd October 2026 through to December the organisation is hosting a series of ‘library talks’, a short outdoor garden talks suitable for all ages based on the season.

Cosy indoor projects

On days when the weather turns on the colder side and staying inside feels far more inviting, why not channel the season’s palette into a creative home project. Crafting an autumnal floral wreath using dried flowers, seed pods, and warm-toned foliage is a simple, satisfying way to bring the beauty of nature indoors and give your entrance a seasonal refresh. If you want to follow an experts’ guidance, there are plenty of workshops on offer led by local florists. For example, our Belle Vue residents have Blooms and Evergreen local experts based in their West Hampstead Studio - they offer seasonal wreath working workshops held in beautiful London venues.

The perfect time to make changes

As the cooler, shorter days draw in, there is a biological and psychological instinct to make our surroundings cosy and warm. Autumn has always been the most popular and practical season to move home; as your natural instincts guide you to make changes, consider if a lick of paint or furniture reshuffle is change enough, or if a bigger shift is needed before the festive season begins. Well insulated homes that are easier to maintain, less hassle and all within a safe, supportive community.

Time to plan your exciting next chapter

Perhaps the greatest gift of a quieter autumn is the perspective it brings. Settled neatly between the summer rush and the festive period ahead, this period of calm provides the perfect window to make thoughtful decisions about the future.

If you have been contemplating a move, autumn is an ideal time to begin your search for a new home. Starting your journey now gives you the time to explore your options at your own pace, setting you up to move in and embrace an exciting new chapter just in time for spring!
