Coastal Escapes
Bude
With its golden beaches and relaxed seaside charm, Bude is the ideal classic summer outing. Take a gentle walk to Summerleaze Beach and enjoy a spot of lunch overlooking the water. Or, for the sportier residents, immerse yourself in all this Cornish town has to offer and go openwater swimming for which you have the choice of bracing the Atlantic Ocean and the much-loved Bude Sea Pool.
Don’t miss out on Bude’s iconic Food Festival on the 9th August held in the grounds of The Castle or the 37th annual Bude Jazz Festival running from 1st–4th September for an unforgettable celebration of Jazz.

Falmouth
A vibrant harbour town filled with maritime history, independent shops and waterside cafés. Spend the morning exploring the historic Pendennis Castle before wandering through the subtropical gardens of Trebah Garden. During the summer months, Falmouth’s lively events calendar only adds to the authentic Cornish atmosphere. Highlights include one of the town’s biggest annual celebrations, Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival (12th–14th June) and one of Cornwall’s major summer festivals, Falmouth Week (7th–16th August) combining yacht racing with a full programme of markets, live music and family entertainment.

Lymington
Set on the edge of the beautiful New Forest National Park and a short drive from the waterfront, Lymington offers the perfect blend of coastal charm and countryside scenery. Spend an afternoon strolling along the historic harbour watching sail boats drift past, explore the picturesque High Street lined with independent shops and be sure to visit Lymington’s popular Saturday Market featuring everything from local produce to handmade gifts. Cultural lovers could also visit St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery which hosts a wide range of exhibitions throughout the year.
Summer brings a wonderful buzz to the local area, with the infamous New Forest Show running from 28th–30th July. With livestock competitions, equestrian events, fun forest activities, local food and drink stalls and entertaining performances this event truly embraces the meaning of rural living.

Cultural Gems
Bath
Few cities rival Bath for architectural beauty. Spend the day exploring the infamous Roman Baths before taking in the beautiful Georgian architecture with a relaxing picnic in front of the Royal Crescent.
Bath isn’t just about impressive architecture and world-famous sights. In the summer, the city embraces creative arts and local, independent traders with must-attend events such as the Bath Literature Festival (16th–24th May), the Bath Carnival (11th July) and the Bath Summer Fayre (17th–19th July).

Winchester
Steeped in English history, Winchester offers charming streets, cultural landmarks and even one of England’s oldest pubs, The Royal Oak dating back to 1002 AD and was once a Saxon palace for Queen Emma. Visit the incredible 11th Century Winchester Cathedral before enjoying a delicious picnic in the gardens, tour the ancient Winchester college (est. 1382) or pay your respects at Jane Austen’s final resting place.
Watch the city come alive in the summer at the Winchester Foodies Festival (17th–19th July) featuring a ready, steady cook-off, drinks theatre and even a wellness village!

Lichfield
Another beautiful cathedral city perfect for a relaxed day out. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the history of the city, visit the Old Guildhall Prison Cells before exploring the breathtaking Lichfield Cathedral. Discover the beautiful 70 acres of Beacon Park with a stroll to the centrepiece fountain as well as statues of Captain Smith of the Titanic, King Edward VII and Erasmus Darwin.
This summer, revel in the 11-day, charity-run Lichfield Festival (7th–19th July) which brings music, theatre and performances to venues across the city, or attend outdoor events such as the lively Lichfield Summer Food and Drink Festival (29th–31st August) celebrating the very best of local and independent traders.

Countryside Retreats
Cranleigh
Nestled in the Surrey Hills, Cranleigh is a picture-perfect village for the ultimate countryside, summer's day out. Start your day with a peaceful coffee at one of the local cafés before basking in the natural beauty Knowle Park has to offer.
Cranleigh also features many seasonal highlights in the village’s social calendar including the Cranleigh Farm & Food Festival (2nd August), celebrating rural life with animal displays, local food stalls and family-friendly activities - a true taste of country living. For the petrolheads, visit the annual Cranleigh Lions Classic Car Festival (9th August) with its impressive display of vintage cars, music and refreshments.

Tetbury
This charming Cotswold town is known for its beautiful stone buildings, independent boutiques and royal connections. Enjoy a peaceful afternoon with a mooch through the weekly Wednesday market and a nature-rich walk through the countryside surroundings in nearby Westonbirt Arboretum.
Blending historic streets with a vibrant local calendar, immerse yourself in the history of the town with the traditional annual Woolsack Races — an infamous Cotswold event dating back to 1972 raising money for local causes. Or, head to TetFest (11th July) a family-friendly music festival that fuses live music and children’s entertainment. Just a short drive away from Tetbury, you could attend the RHS Badminton Flower Show open from the 8th–12th July.
