Region at a glance - the North
The North of England covers a lot of ground, from Cheshire up to the Tyne. Pegasus has two communities here, one in Cheshire and one in Tyne and Wear, and they offer two quite different ways to live.
In Cheshire, Wilmslow is a town in its own right, with direct trains to Manchester Piccadilly whenever you want the city. In Tyne and Wear, Jesmond is a Newcastle neighbourhood, with woodland at Jesmond Dene and the Metro running out to the coast.
So the choice comes down to a town base with Manchester by train, or city living with the seaside on the network. Start with the people and places you’d like to stay close to.
Why retire in the North?
-
Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and Newcastle Theatre Royal both run full programmes, so concerts, drama, ballet and opera stay in your diary.
-
The Carrs in Wilmslow and Jesmond Dene in Newcastle are riverside and woodland parks, so an everyday walk comes with trees and water.
-
Wilmslow has direct trains to Manchester Piccadilly and Jesmond sits on Newcastle’s Metro, so plenty of outings can leave the car at home.
-
Newcastle’s Metro reaches the North Tyneside coast, so Tynemouth Longsands and Whitley Bay add beach walks to city life.
Retirement living in the North
In Wilmslow, the monthly artisan market brings food and craft stalls to the town centre, and The Carrs follow the River Bollin out towards Styal. Further along, Quarry Bank’s woodland and gardens make a rewarding outing, and Manchester is there by train for the bigger nights out.
In Jesmond, the paths through Jesmond Dene range from gentle to steep, so there’s a walk for every mood. Newcastle’s city centre brings the Theatre Royal, and the Metro makes the coast a refreshing change of scene.
