What is Positive Ageing Week?
Positive Ageing Week celebrates the contribution, experience and energy that active adults bring to their communities. In 2026, events are taking place from Friday 25 September to Friday 2 October, with activities designed to encourage a more positive view of ageing by challenging outdated assumptions and recognising the many ways people continue to enjoy, influence and enrich the world around them.
It is a chance to join a local interest group, learn a new skill, meet friends for coffee, take part in a creative workshop or simply make more time for the people and activities that bring you joy.
International Day of Older Persons
Thursday 1 October marks International Day of Older Persons, an annual United Nations day recognising the contribution of people in later life and encouraging more inclusive communities.The 2026 theme is focused on longer lives and the need to rethink the systems and environments that support them.
For us, that means recognising that there is no single way to enjoy life over 60. Some residents may want to fill their calendars with activities and social occasions. Others may value peaceful mornings, spontaneous trips, creative projects or the freedom to decide exactly how each day unfolds.

What is Silver Sunday?
Silver Sunday takes place on Sunday 4 October 2026 and is a national day celebrating the over-60s community through activities and events that bring people together. Local organisations often mark it with coffee mornings, creative workshops, cultural activities, live entertainment and social gatherings.
