Renowned for its outstanding beauty the North Downs is home to some of England’s most iconic landmarks. Stretching from the White Cliffs of Dover to Farnham in Surrey the North Downs is a fantastic place for walking and exploring the great outdoors across the seasons.

With a diverse landscape and many historic towns full of enjoyable activities, history and beauty are easily found throughout the length and breadth of the North Downs which can easily be explored from our Crowthorne and Sandhurst communities.  

Walk this Way

Rolling through the stunning beauty of the North Downs is the magnificent North Downs Way National Trail, which offers walkers 153 miles of pure joy as it lazily winds through glorious English landscape. Offering a range of different scenery such as leafy forest walks, coastal cliffs and challenging hills, the North Downs National Trail always has a new view to offer.

Maintained by National Trails the North Downs Way rewards those who travel it with both historic sites and blissful nature. The trail is mostly flat with some steep inclines that simply take your breath away, and not just because of the incline. The section from Guildford to Reigate is home to the Surrey Hills which is comprised of ascents such as Box Hill and Colley Hill making this stretch challenging but ultimately rewarding with some of the most glorious views of the local outstanding beauty.

Discover Beautifully Maintained Castles

The North Downs boasts some of the finest castles and palaces in England. Painstakingly preserved grounds really help to bring history to life as you explore how the royalty of yesteryear used to live.

In the springtime Groombridge Place Estate, Sissinghurst Castle Garden and Scotney Castle grounds come to life with a wide array of plants and flowers to explore and enjoy. A gentle stroll through the stunning and inspirational grounds really gives one a sense of the historic majesty and richness that The North Downs has to offer.

Explore Historic Towns

If walking through the picturesque country has worked up an appetite there are many historic towns and charming villages offering a range of lovely pubs and cafes to pop in for a spot of lunch.  Who doesn’t love a roast in a country pub, or a fresh slice of cake from a tearoom?

With a wide range of country pubs, it would almost be rude not to sample some of the traditional Ales. Flavoured with Kentish Hops many brewers offer a wide range of beverages that pair with many local dishes. If you are feeling sophisticated there are various vineyards across the area that provide a verity of wines.

For those who enjoy shopping in historic towns, places such as Guildford and Wokingham are readily available. With a mix of market, boutique, and well-known branches where you can shop till your hearts content.
