When Ann Lovett decided to downsize from her previous home in Marlborough, a bungalow with a large garden, she did not have to look very far. Amongst other things, the garden was becoming more difficult to look after and, following the sad death of her husband, Mrs Lovett had taken the decision to move to a smaller, more manageable property.

On a day out with her daughter, they came across the Renaissance Marlborough launch event at the Town Hall: “We went and had a look at what was on display as I was looking for a smaller, more manageable home in Marlborough. I liked what I saw at the launch and felt it was the right place for me. My daughter agreed and said she would feel much happier if I moved to a place like Renaissance Marlborough, so we went and visited the community. I knew straight away that I was making the right choice. I didn’t look at any other properties, there was no need.”

Mrs Lovett purchased a one-bedroom home in the community, which is situated at the former Old Yard in the centre of Marlborough. In fact, being so close to the centre of town was one of the things that particularly appealed to Mrs Lovett, meaning that she could wander in with ease whenever she wanted. Mrs Lovett also found the community at Renaissance Marlborough a great benefit with the support, friendship and back up that she receives an important factor, enhanced by aspects such as the Lifehost and a sociable and welcoming owners’ drawing room.

“Before I retired in 2006 to care for my husband, I managed a day centre for the elderly in Marlborough, so had some first-hand experience of what is available in the community. Renaissance Marlborough has the feel of a first-class hotel, which is what sets it apart, and I am so glad to be living here. I have always kept myself busy, playing bridge, reading, walking and socialising with friends and family. Living here, in a ready-made community, adds to that and it is a lot easier to keep some of my activities going. During lockdown, for example, I walked more and there are some beautiful walks around here, out in the local countryside, the Marlborough Downs, Savernake Forest, Avebury Stone Circle and the Ridgeway are all nearby.”

“Marlborough is also a wonderful place to live. I grew up abroad, in Malta and Cyprus, and loved living in both as a child, they were very idyllic and different places to live. It is a very friendly town and being Deputy Chair and then Chair of Marlborough in Bloom for three years, up until last year, I got to know the place and people really well; everyone is so friendly. I love living at Renaissance Marlborough, moving here was the best decision. I have my own front door so can have visits from my family and friends, and it helps to make my apartment here really feel like home.”
