Benefits of renting a retirement property
A flexible, long-term tenancy
Renting can sound temporary. A Pegasus tenancy is designed for a longer-term move. Your tenancy is an Assured Periodic Tenancy: a rolling contract with no fixed end date. It follows the Renters' Rights Act, which came into effect on 1 May 2026.
We do ask that you move in with a long-term view; one of the biggest benefits of living within our communities is the community itself. We find that those residents who see this move as their long term home will find the greatest enjoyment here. If your circumstances change, you need only give two months' notice.
Repairs and maintenance
Our in-house team handles major maintenance inside your home. A repair job is a call to the team here who handles it for you, not days on end trying to find a tradesman and an acceptable price.

How renting works
Renting a Pegasus home takes five steps, from your first visit to moving day. You'll find all five below the listing.
Rent with us step by step
In line with the new Renters Rights Act that came into effect on 1st May 2026, we offer customers an Assured Periodic Tenancy (APT). A flexible, rolling contract that gives you increased security, higher standards and fair rent structures. At Pegasus Homes, we welcome the new Act as a positive for the housing market and rental industry.
-
Step One
First of all, just like if you were buying your new home, you view the property, to be sure it’s right for you.
- Step Two Our knowledgeable team will talk you through the whole transaction, as well as introducing you to the on-site team, to make sure you’re entirely comfortable with the moving process.
- Step Three We’ll ask for some basic information, including financial details, to make sure that the rent is affordable to you on a long term basis.
-
Step Four
We request a month's rent in advance, as well as a five week deposit which is registered and held by a Government backed deposit scheme, before you move into the apartment.
- Step Five Once the paperwork is complete, we’ll help you move in on the pre-agreed date.
"After discussing with my son the option to rent, we thought it would be a sensible decision for me. Renting a home comes with less responsibility, yet there was still the option to buy the new home in the future if I wished." Pegasus Homes Resident - Steepleton
"Our choice to rent was because it’s much quicker. We had just sold our house and we also thought, well we never know, we might not like it here. But it’s nice because you you always see people around." Pegasus Homes Resident - Leyton Road
"Investing in a property didn’t feel like the right option with the additional costs such as stamp duties fees. Renting appealed to us precisely for its flexibility, allowing us to adapt to changing circumstances and needs." Pegasus Homes Resident - Wooburn Bales
