Retirement properties in Wiltshire
County at a glance - Wiltshire
Wiltshire has market towns, the city of Salisbury and plenty of open country, from chalk downs to the Vale of Pewsey. Pegasus has one community here, Renaissance Marlborough, in the market town of Marlborough.
Marlborough has open downland around it and Savernake Forest just to the south. Its High Street holds markets twice a week, and the Kennet & Avon Canal at nearby Pewsey makes a welcome change of scenery. For trains, you’ll use stations close by such as Great Bedwyn and Pewsey.
Why retire in Wiltshire?
-
Marlborough’s High Street mixes national and independent shops with Wednesday and Saturday markets, so town has extra appeal on market days.
-
Open downs, Savernake’s woodland and the canal at Pewsey give you three very different kinds of walk.
-
Avebury’s stones and the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes turn local history into an ongoing interest.
-
A trip to Salisbury Playhouse and Marlborough’s annual literary festival give the year a cultural thread, from new productions to author talks.
Retirement living in Wiltshire
Marlborough’s centre runs beyond the High Street into yards and side streets, so shopping and lunch have plenty of corners to explore. Savernake has surfaced and unsurfaced paths, so you can pick a walk to suit. At Avebury, walking routes link the village and its stones with the countryside around them.
Hungerford and Swindon add more rail options, and buses link the town with Devizes and Hungerford. Demand-responsive buses also serve parts of the county, so a little planning opens up plenty.
